What work experience did you bring with you before starting at Cegeka?
"After completing my degree in Industrial Engineering, I started working as a Continuous Improvement Engineer, where I was responsible for optimizing production processes and planning. In addition, I successfully completed several side projects, such as redeveloping a packaging line, creating a forecast for suppliers, and processing and visualizing data from machine hardware to optimize planning and OEE-figures.
During this first work experience, I also assisted as a production key user in the implementation of the ERP system Finance & Operations. This was a very unique project because it took place during the COVID-19 pandemic when production was halted. Perhaps a blessing in disguise, as it allowed us to fully focus on the implementation.
After that successful implementation, I started as a Production Manager at a new employer. First in the US, where I improved my leadership skills and learned a lot technically through close contact with the product and production. Then back in Belgium, where I managed a team that doubled in size within two years, which involved a lot of operational and people management tasks. Again, I assisted as a key user in an ERP implementation there."
What led you to decide to make the switch to the Switch to ERP program and choose a role as an Application Consultant?
"I started looking for a new challenge myself because I couldn't grow enough in my then-current role. As I mentioned, I was often involved in operational and people management tasks, while my passion truly lies in process optimization.
Due to my experience as a key user in ERP implementations, I started leaning in that direction. I began researching ERP partners and ultimately chose Cegeka as the best fit for me. This decision was also influenced by my positive collaboration with Cegeka colleagues during the ERP implementation at my first employer. I started at Cegeka in September 2023."
What doubts did you have before making the decision to take this step?
"Originally, I had applied for a role within Finance & Operations. However, through Thibaut Heeren, I ended up in Business Central because there was a need for someone with a background in production. This turned out to be a very good move.
In my new role, I got to learn about other business processes. Previously, my knowledge was primarily in production, but now I had to familiarize myself with other areas such as procurement, sales, and logistics. This transition was very manageable at Business Central, and I was able to quickly adapt to this new knowledge.
Although distance to clients can sometimes be challenging, I find it important to have face-to-face contact with them. These personal interactions are always successful and contribute to better communication processing, so I gladly incorporate that into my work."
What appeals to you the most in your current role?
"As a consultant, I have more flexibility and variety compared to my previous roles. I now have more opportunities to gain knowledge across different sectors, as I work on different and new projects with various colleagues. Additionally, I now also have the chance to work from home, whereas before I was always on the production floor.
However, after a few months, I noticed that the role of consultant wasn't challenging enough for me. I was torn between a role as a Project Manager, where I could oversee the bigger picture and manage projects effectively, and a role as a Solution Architect, where I could focus on solution-oriented and optimization work. According to our Director, Stefan Van Hecke, the perfect combination of these interests can be found in the role of Service Delivery Manager. Currently, I am being given the opportunity to grow into this position."
What training or education were offered to make you feel comfortable in your current position?
"From my previous roles, I had already developed strong people skills and a thorough knowledge of production processes. At Cegeka, I was given the opportunity to participate in the Business Central Booster training sessions right from the start, which allowed me to quickly and efficiently familiarize myself with all the different domains within the ERP solution.
In addition, much of my learning was on the job, as another production consultant left and I was able to step in immediately to take over that role. This allowed me to deliver valuable work right away, while continuing to learn and grow."
What does your typical workday look like now?
"The work heavily depends on the phase each project is in. Currently, for example, three out of five projects are in the final stages of the Solution-Design-Build process. This involves conducting on-site training sessions, addressing client inquiries, and preparing everything for the go-live.
Regardless of the project phase, it's always satisfying to continually help clients move forward."
Do you have any tips for people who are unsure about their career choices?
"You receive the necessary trainings and opportunities, especially with Business Central it's manageable to learn about all domains. Later on, you can continue to grow further. At first glance, it seems impossible to learn everything about a company from A to Z in any sector, but through Business Central, it's achievable. This way, you also discover where your interests lie, which is invaluable.
The company atmosphere is fantastic, with enjoyable team-building activities and a great ambiance both in the office and during work. Continuous Learning & Development are central, which makes the work even more stimulating."
