Steven Godfroid, Senior Security Consultant
What motivated you to persue a career as a Security Advisor?
"I’ve always been a bit of a Security 'Geek.' I have a strong interest in 'ethical hacking', think of it as a reverse escape room. So, why not use this knowledge to protect multiple clients? Security is diverse and spans many domains, so there’s always something new to tackle. Never a dull day!"
How do you stay up to date with the latest Security trends?
"Reading, reading, reading! Vendor reports, LinkedIn posts, TryHackMe rooms, blogs, Security events, webinars... But also through contact with close colleagues and by taking courses on specific topics. The latter is also helpful for keeping your certifications valid."
What are some challenging situations you encounter in your work?
"Every day in Security can present its own set of challenges, whether it's dealing with an incident, addressing critical vulnerabilities, raising awareness, or convincing management."
What skills are essential for a succesful Security Advisor?
"You need to be analytical and have strong problem-solving skills. It's also important to translate 'tech talk' into terms that non-IT people can understand. In other words, you need a solid technical background. And, of course, a strong desire to keep learning is crucial."
