Are you working with Dynamics 365 Business Central? Then you won't want to miss this blog! In this article you can find the key updates from Release Wave 1 in 2025.

General Updates

We start with a selection of general updates in Business Central:

  • Optimize screen space: this ensures optimal screen usage with customized sizes of standard pages and panes, which you can adjust per page/mode.
  • View PDF attachments directly in the web client: with this feature, you can open PDF attachments directly in the Business Central web client (preview mode) without downloading them first.

Supply Chain Management

We also have various updates for Supply Chain Management that we would like to share with you.

Use advanced analytics for production & material control

The improved reporting and analytics capabilities help you track new KPIs and scenarios in Power BI, and many existing reports now work with an Excel or Word format, making adjustments easier. You can also now prevent an item or item variant from being used for production output, ensuring full control over the materials you use in production.

Warehouse processes, digitization of document management, and product design improvements

This release also includes the ability to use warehouse storage for production output, meaning you can use the same warehouse process as with other receipts. Using the same process makes it easier because you don't have to switch between different types of documents.

Document management for production-related documents (such as drawings or inspection reports) can now be digitized by directly adding them to operations plans and orders. This ‘Document Attachment FactBox’ has been added to pages related to production, such as operations plans and production orders.

In the production world, product design plays a crucial role in transforming raw materials into finished products. 'Production bill of materials' (Production BOM) and production routing are key concepts in manufacturing. In this release, several functionalities have been added to improve the product design phase. For example, you can view a list of all Production BOM versions of items and the quantities used per item.

Finance: Extensive financial reporting capabilities and new Power BI apps

Improved financial reporting capabilities

There are two new Finance updates we particularly want to highlight. First, the improved financial reporting capabilities, which include the following three features: hiding empty rows when viewing a financial report, displaying negative numbers in an accounting format with (), and setting when a financial report is run.

This 'no-code' reporting functionality offers significant advantages for finance departments, as it allows them to create their own financial reports and statements without the help of developers.

New Power BI apps

Additionally, there are 6 new Power BI apps available for finance, sales, inventory, purchasing, projects, and production. These allow you to create reports and analyze data within these areas. These include Power BI apps that provide insights into data on fixed assets and subscription billing.

Copilot: Sales Order Agent & Summaries

Copilot: Automating sales orders with an agent

Microsoft research shows that 41% of business leaders expect to redefine business processes with AI over the next 5 years, with AI agents playing a role in coordinating and managing. For Business Central, we introduce the ‘Sales Order Agent’: the agent for sales orders to automate the process of capturing sales orders from email messages.

The agent is configured to manage the entire process: from extracting item requests from customer emails to preparing sales quotes and verifying item availability to forwarding quotes to customers for approval. This is always with user approval. The agent is set up through a simple configuration process where the user selects which steps to include or exclude.

Summarizing with Copilot

On a workday, you spend a significant amount of time understanding the current state of data and finding the fields you really need. Summarizing is a new functionality of Copilot in Business Central where you benefit from:

  • A new block with summaries is displayed on card and document pages, such as Sales Order and Item.
  • The summary provides a top 3 of the most impactful insights, with more insights on request.
  • The summary can be refreshed based on the most recent data.

Copilot summarizes a record in a few short sentences, allowing you to more quickly and easily get an overview of the data and plan an approach.

Services: Improved customer document layout

Additional functionality has been added to the customer card to send service quotes, orders, invoices, and credit memos to specific contacts. Many organizations work with multiple customer contacts responsible for different operational areas. You now save time sending service documents to different customer contacts by setting specific recipients in the document layouts on the customer card.
