2025 Microsoft Release Wave 1: Dynamics 365 Power Platform

March 07, 2025

Calling all Power Platform users! In Release Wave 1 of 2025, plenty of exciting developments are awaiting, many in combination with Copilot. Curious? Then continue reading.

Key developments

  • The Organization Insights Dashboard is no longer in use. Similar insights are now available in Microsoft Dataverse Analytics.
  • Starting October 2024, the hierarchy control, used to define and query hierarchically related data in model-driven apps, will no longer be supported. It will continue to work in existing apps until October 2025, after which it will be removed from the product.
  • DLP activity logging will no longer be usable from July 2024. Instead, you can use the new schema under ‘Activity Category: Data Policy Events.’

Power Apps

A handy new feature is that you can now select how many columns of tables you want to download on mobile, for offline use. The fewer columns you select, the faster the app downloads the data onto the device, saving you time. Additionally, there are various Copilot updates for Power Apps:

  • You can now add an AI record summary to model-driven apps, providing easy access to all key information.
  • Copilot can now assist you in planning solutions for organizational issues. Think about, for example, developing scenarios and requirements such as user roles, user needs, data schemas, and a complete solution architecture.
  • New is also that you can now search, filter, and sort data more easily using natural language in model-driven app views.
  • The custom Copilot form assistant functionality uses your organization’s knowledge to fill out forms faster and more consistently.
  • And last but not least, you can now easily visualize data in a view with Copilot. With one click, you can turn table data into a chart to gain insights into patterns, trends, and relationships in your data.

Power Pages

For Power Pages, we have some exciting developments in the Design Studio. You can use natural language to create new sections and take advantage of improvements in modern lists (including custom JavaScript for styling). Microsoft has also listened to a lot of user feedback by improving the website experience with enhanced file upload options. You can now drag and drop files or upload them directly from your camera. Finally, the configuration of Entra External ID has become simpler, so it is no longer necessary to navigate through multiple interfaces. This shifts from complex configurations to a focus on innovation.

Power Automate

The updates for Power Automate are divided into three sections: Cloud Flows, Copilot, and Desktop Flows. For Cloud Flows, it is now possible to create a flow from a file in Teams (using templates or AI), use Copilot to make Power Automate expressions with natural language, and create generative actions in cloud flows with AI. The latter uses a large language model (LLM) that analyzes all available resources and determines the sequence to achieve the desired result. The result? Flexible automations that save you a lot of time.

Copilot now has the ability to provide advice to improve errors in flows, with the direct option to resolve them.

New for Desktop Flows is that you can share your screen and describe the task you want to automate—much like a personal conversation. Copilot then captures your voice, mouse, and keyboard input and makes a flow out of it. You can also use natural language to create automations for Desktop Flows. Additionally, you can use your voice to communicate with Copilot.

Copilot Studio

Moving on to the Copilot Studio, there are updates for Core Authoring and Copilot configuration. For Core Authoring, you can now add suggested prompts to custom copilots. You can also configure Copilot with extensions to gather third-party data, such as Power Platform connectors and flows.

When we look at the updates to Copilot configuration, a change is that you can now analyze the actions of agents to better understand usage patterns and identify improvement points. A similar update is available for the use of knowledge sources; you can now analyze and assess how effectively they are used. Finally, it is now possible to test and debug agent actions in Copilot Studio.

AI Builder

It is now possible to interact with documents originating from your Copilot, giving you the possibility to summarize key points, for instance. Copilot now also generates new document templates to support your productivity. Copilot assists you in creating the perfect prompt. It is now possible to use data from connectors in prompts, making you no longer limited to the data in Dataverse.

Dataverse

Dataverse now supports large files up to 1 GB. Users can now view security roles in Dataverse via documentation or request them via Microsoft Copilot in Bing. You can also use Dataverse’s AI functions to improve data quality, allowing users to efficiently respond to feedback and customer inquiries.

Governance and administration

Finally, all updates regarding governance and administration. First, it is now possible to view all pipelines and receive recommendations in the deployments hub. It is now possible to delegate administrative responsibilities with group management roles. This feature allows for the creation of environment groups, where trusted users gain administrative control over specific groups of environments, controlling and restricting access, thereby improving security and efficiency.
Regarding security, there are various updates:

  • As an administrator, you can now enhance security by limiting access from IP addresses outside your configured business ecosystem.
  • Sensitive data can now be masked with column-level security.
  • Data security can be implemented with filtered views based on certain field values.
  • You can now set up a Managed Identity for secure and seamless authentication without the need to manage login credentials. This also significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, credential leaks, and potential security breaches.
